Not
since Abe Lincoln has a sitting president
talked so much about God as President George
W. Bush.
. . . Bush finds direction and the
source of his strength by calling on God's
help.
The idea for this book was conceived
during a White House briefing I attended a
few months after the horrific events of
September 11, 2001. During the briefing
some of the president's closest advisors
gave an inside look into the life of the
president. They told us how much he valued
his faith--and how he relied on it for
strength and direction during the days,
weeks and months following the terror
attacks on America.
. . . [U]ntil that day, I did not fully
appreciate the sincerity and depth of his
convictions.
Maybe I had been a little swayed by the
secular elite . . . saying Bush's
spirituality was nothing more than
politicking. . . .
I set my course on setting the record
straight. . . .
What I found is a president who
believes in the God of the Bible, and his
son, Jesus Christ. He believes in the power
of prayer, and that all men and women are
created equal by God. He believes the Bible
commands us to love our neighbor and have
compassion. He believes that evil exists in
the world, that freedom is our God-given
right, and that as Americans we have a duty
to protect the rights of all people to be
free.
President Bush's favorite hymn, called
"A Charge to Keep":
A charge to keep I have,
A God to glorify,
A never dying soul to save,
And fit it for the sky.
To serve the present age,
My calling to fulfill;
O may it all my powers engage
To do my Master's will!
Charles Wesley
[The remainder of the book contains speeches
given by President Bush in which he
clarifies what Freiling discovered--that
George W. Bush bases his decisions on his
Christian and moral code. When I vote in
November, I will not be guided by the
outcome of the war, homeland security or the
economy. Neither will I be persuaded by
President Bush's mistakes--we all make
mistakes because we are human. What will
determine my vote is my unshakable faith in
Almighty God and how He delights in guiding
the steps of man. I believe in George W.
Bush's God so therefore I believe in George
W. Bush. I plead with you to pray daily for
the safety of our president. The forces of
evil do not want him to be reelected and
they know no limits.] |
