JAN'S NEWSLETTER . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .  JULY 12, 2003

In light of the recent Supreme Court decision overturning sodomy laws, I ask you to join me in prayer for our nation. The following article by Daniel Webster reminds us once again that obeying God's Word is our only hope.

“If we abide by the principles taught in the Bible, our country will prosper. But if we and our posterity neglect the instructions and authority in this Book, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overtake us and bury our glory in profound obscurity.

“This is the Book that inspired thousands of men and women to travel to the New World where they could live and worship God in freedom.

“This is the Book our forefathers drew upon for the great principles included in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

“This is the Book that the people of America—in every walk of life—have turned to for strength, for comfort and for guidance.

“This is the Book that is in every court of this broad land, a reminder of America's ideal of freedom and justice for all.

“This is the Book that its enemies burn—the Book they smear and fear, because it proclaims the dignity of the individual and teaches that all men are created in the image of God.

“America still needs the Bible! We need courage to face today's problems and divine wisdom to solve them, just as our forefathers did.

“Let this Book revive in us the spirit of our fathers to face tomorrow unafraid. Let us too turn to the Book that reveals the mind of God, His holinessHis love for lost sinners and His salvation through Jesus Christ.”

--Daniel Webster

Please continue to pray for our president and for those who advise him. Pray for his enemies that they might be open to truth.

We have an announcement to make:

Avery Nash Walters was born to our son Kevin, and his wife, Gricelda, June 27, 2003. He weighed 7 lbs. 4-1/2 oz., was 21” long. He is welcomed by big sisters Alexica—14 and Angelica--8. Avery is the seventh grandchild of Jerry and Jan. Daughter Karla and her husband Mark have four children: Hannah—12, Caleb—10, Elijah—9, and Silas—3.

I wrote the following poem in honor of Avery. I am blessed beyond measure.

                            Avery Nash Walters

Avery Nash—I prayed for you, child (I Sam. 1:27)
Fervently pleaded, not meek and not mild.
I asked the Father, all glorious above
To form you special with infinite love. (Ps. 119:73)
I accept you as His kindly reward
A son, a heritage, straight from the Lord. (Ps. 127:3)

What wonderful plans does God have for you?
What place of service will He have you do? (Mark 10:36)
What dreams will you dream as you mature?
What hurts or sorrow might you endure?
My heart's wish for you soars to the mount.
But the wonders He plans no one can recount. (Ps. 40:5)

I wish I could hold you, arms round you tight
To shield and cover you with all my might.
My efforts, so feeble, would leave you threadbare.
So tenderly, I place you into His care.
The angels encamp round those who fear Him. (Ps. 34:7)
He's so secure, a fortress for them. (Prov. 14:26)

Plus God has provided a wonderful home
With parents who have placed God on the throne--(Jude 1:25)
A mom who loves Jesus with all of her heart, (Mt. 22:37)
A dad who tries diligently to do his part. (Prov. 4:1-4)
May they walk blameless in kitchen and den (Ps. 101:2)
And bathe you in love to cover your sin. (Prov. 10:12)

To live to know you is my greatest desire. (Ps. 128:6)
To clothe you in righteousness—heavenly attire. (Ps. 103:17)
That's the inheritance I leave you, Avery Nash. Prov. 13:22)
It's far more valuable than coin or than cash.
“You are my joy, my crown,” says the Word. (Prov. 17:6)
Let's just praise Him; let's praise the Lord.

                                                                                       --Jan Walters
